Case 1: ‘Nicholas’
Marin Alpine Trail, approx age : 1999.
This was a full service where the bike was cleaned, had cassette, chain and front & back brake blocks replaced, new gear and brake cables were inserted and the rear wheel was replaced as the original was badly worn. The brake blocks had worn through to their wear limit and were contradicting rim strength by deteriating the rim. The customer was on holiday…he commented that the bike was much improved and far cleaner on its return from the service.
Case 2
Marin ‘Tristan’.
This bike had been used and abused for several months and was to be returned to original owner by the borrower so had to be restored. The bikes seatpost was seized so this was the first job, once this was free, the bike was given a full clean and checkover. The checkover highligted that the gear shifters needed to be replaced as they were faulty, the brake cables were replaced and lubed. When picked up by the customer he commented ‘that is just like it was before I borrowed it’, ie CLEAN……
